Sukary Dates — The King of Sweetness from Al-Qassim

Ask any date connoisseur to name their favourite variety and there is a good chance they will say Sukary. Translating literally as “sugary” in Arabic, Sukary dates live up to their name — they are exceptionally sweet, with a distinctive crunch that makes them instantly recognisable. Grown in the Al-Qassim region of Saudi Arabia, they are one of the most sought-after premium date varieties in the world.

The Al-Qassim Difference

Al-Qassim sits in the heart of the Najd plateau in central Saudi Arabia. The region’s continental desert climate — scorching summers, cold nights, and very low humidity — creates ideal conditions for producing dates with a concentrated sweetness and crisp texture. Al-Qassim farmers have cultivated Sukary palms for generations, refining techniques passed down through centuries.

At Sanyeh, we work directly with Al-Qassim farmers, cutting out middlemen entirely. This means you receive dates of superior freshness at a fairer price.

What Do Sukary Dates Look and Taste Like?

Sukary dates are light golden to amber in colour, often with a slightly wrinkled skin that encases a firm yet melting interior. Their flavour is intensely sweet — almost like honey — with a hint of butterscotch. Unlike medjool dates, which are soft and moist, Sukary have a satisfying slight firmness that makes them exceptionally enjoyable to eat.

They are sold as Sukary Rateb (fresh, softer texture) and Sukary Mftel (slightly drier). Both are available in 500 g and 1 kg packs at Sanyeh.

Nutritional Highlights

Sukary dates are not just delicious — they are genuinely good for you:

  • High in natural glucose and fructose for quick, clean energy
  • Rich in dietary fibre, supporting digestive health
  • Good source of potassium and B vitamins
  • Contain tannins and flavonoids with antioxidant properties

Because our Sukary dates contain no added sugars or preservatives, they are an excellent natural alternative to processed sweets and energy bars.

How to Serve Sukary Dates

  • As a standalone snack — their sweetness means one or two dates are thoroughly satisfying
  • Paired with Arabic coffee (Qahwa) — a classic combination that balances sweetness with bitterness
  • Blended into smoothies or energy balls
  • Stuffed with cream cheese or pistachios for elegant entertaining
  • Crumbled over porridge or yoghurt as a natural sweetener

Buying Authentic Sukary Dates in Europe

Many products labelled “Sukary dates” in European supermarkets have spent months or years in cold storage, losing texture, aroma, and nutritional value. At Sanyeh, we source seasonally to bring you Sukary dates at their absolute best. Our dates are organic, Halal-certified, and ethically sourced under SMETA standards — because quality and integrity go hand in hand.
